The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the death of ten persons during an attack on Binnari Village in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of the state.
Spokesman for the state police command, ASP Victor Mshelizah, confirmed the development, saying the attack was carried out by suspected bandits on Friday, October 23, 2026.
Residents of the community, however, disputed the figure given by the police and insisted that 26 bodies had so far been recovered, most of them women and children.
They suspected that bandits who allegedly crossed over from neighbouring Plateau State were behind the deadly attack.
Karim Lamido Local Government Area has, in recent times, become a theatre of killings from constant attacks on communities and wanton destruction of property.
Our correspondent reports that the situation has drawn the attention of Governor Agbu Kefas, who has taken measures, including the deployment of troops and community engagement, to resolve it.
However, a resident of the area, Mr. Bala Usman, said that “the latest attack has shown how precarious and fluid the security situation in the local government remains.”
According to residents’ accounts, the attackers stormed the remote village in the early hours of Friday and started shooting sporadically, killing people as they scrambled for safety.
Farmers’ harvests and other property were also destroyed in the attack, while homes were set ablaze as the locals ran for safety.
