A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to make the process of collecting Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) easier ahead of the state’s governorship election.
Speaking to journalists on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye said many eligible voters had experienced unnecessary difficulties while trying to obtain their PVCs, stressing that a more accessible system would encourage greater participation in the election.
He said reducing the challenges associated with PVC collection would increase voter turnout and allow more citizens to exercise their constitutional right to vote.
The APC stalwart also encouraged residents who had not yet collected their PVCs not to be discouraged by the process. He urged them to obtain their cards and participate peacefully in the election by voting for candidates of their choice.
Oyintiloye advised voters not to be intimidated by reports of political tension, warning that no individual or group should be allowed to create fear or undermine the democratic process through acts capable of discouraging lawful participation.
He further appealed to security agencies to remain alert and professional before, during and after the election, urging them to protect lives and property while ensuring that anyone involved in violence, intimidation or any activity capable of disrupting the poll is brought to justice.
Expressing confidence in the APC’s chances, Oyintiloye said the party’s governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, enjoys widespread support across Osun State and is well-positioned to win the election.
According to him, the level of acceptance and enthusiasm shown by residents reflects growing confidence in the APC candidate, adding that the party is optimistic of securing victory.
He maintained that Oyebamiji was on course to emerge as the state’s next governor, expressing confidence that voters would democratically elect him to lead Osun State.
