The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) says it has thwarted an attempted theft at its 330/132-kilovolt transmission substation in Bauchi.
In a statement issued on Sunday, TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, said the incident occurred at about 9:34 p.m. on Friday when security personnel intercepted suspected vandals trying to remove key components from a transmission tower.
According to her, the suspects fled the scene after spotting the security team, abandoning the operation before any damage could be done.
She disclosed that a subsequent search of the area led to the recovery of 12 transmission tower angle irons, a heavy-duty metal measuring scale, and a white pickup truck believed to have been used by the suspects.
Mbah said the recovered items, along with the vehicle, had been handed over to the Railway Division Police Station in Bauchi for further investigation.
She noted that no transmission equipment was stolen and no injuries were recorded during the incident.
The TCN spokesperson praised the swift response of the security operatives, saying their vigilance prevented damage to critical electricity infrastructure and protected the integrity of the national transmission network.
She also appealed to residents of host communities to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities around power facilities to security agencies or the nearest TCN office to help safeguard public infrastructure.
