Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 31 passengers after foiling a kidnap attempt by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.
The operation took place at about 3:45 p.m. on Friday after troops detected the movement of the terrorists through real-time surveillance while they were intercepting four civilian vehicles and taking their occupants hostage.
According to the acting spokesperson for Operation Hadin Kai, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Goni, a quick response team was immediately deployed to pursue the fleeing terrorists towards the Mangari–Dora area.
He said the troops caught up with the insurgents and engaged them in a gunfight, forcing the attackers to flee into nearby bushes while abandoning the kidnapped civilians and the four vehicles.
The soldiers also recovered motorcycles left behind by the fleeing terrorists during the operation.
All 31 victims were rescued without injuries, while the four vehicles were recovered intact.
Goni added that the rescued passengers and their vehicles were escorted to Buratai, where they reclaimed their vehicles before continuing their journey safely.
