The police command in Ogun State says it has foiled a robbery operation in the Ota area of the state, killing a suspected robber during a raid.
In a statement on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the operation, which took place at about 1:45 p.m., led to the recovery of two vehicles, HP and Dell laptops, among other items.
He said other items included a substantial cache of suspected stolen property, a console, four mobile phones, a Samsung television, a standing fan, a rechargeable radio, a Wi-Fi device, clothing, an OPay ATM card, a deck, two MP devices, and other household items.
“A locally made pistol, two live cartridges, and seven expended cartridges were also recovered from the deceased suspect
“On sighting the operatives, the armed robbers opened fire, prompting an immediate tactical response,” Mr Babaseyi said.
According to him, the exchange of gunfire resulted in the neutralisation of one suspect, while other gang members fled with suspected gunshot injuries.
The police said a search after the encounter led to the recovery of two vehicles, a Nissan Almera and a Toyota Camry, along with a cache of suspected stolen property.
He added that other items recovered from the deceased suspect include a Tecno mobile phone, three passport photographs, an MTN SIM pack, two National Identification Number (NIN) cards and cases.
