The Anambra State Government has placed a ban on the construction of speed bumps by individuals, communities, or groups without official authorisation.
The state Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Law Mefor, disclosed this in a statement issued to journalists on Saturday in Awka.
Mefor said the new directive was introduced to address the growing trend of indiscriminate placement of speed bumps across the state, which has negatively affected road conditions and safety.
He explained that henceforth, all proposed speed bumps and their locations must receive approval from the state government before construction can begin.
“All speed bumps and their locations must be approved by the state government. A standard design will also be obtained from the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure,” the commissioner stated.
He added that speed bumps would only be allowed in essential areas, including markets, schools, churches, and other places considered necessary by the government.
The commissioner advised residents seeking clarification on the policy to contact the Office of the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure through the provided official channel.
