The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Rabiu Garba Aiki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the Zuru State Constituency by-election in Kebbi State.
Announcing the outcome at the collation centre, the Returning Officer, Professor Muhammad Bashar Danladi of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, said Aiki secured 4,871 votes to emerge victorious in the contest.
His closest challenger, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), polled 168 votes.
According to Danladi, the constituency has a total of 109,385 registered voters, while 5,156 voters were accredited to participate in the election.
He noted that 5,055 valid votes were cast, while 95 ballots were rejected.
The by-election was held across polling units in Zuru Local Government Area following the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, which created a vacancy in the constituency.
Results from the various wards showed the APC maintaining a commanding lead throughout the exercise, winning comfortably across all voting areas.
Despite the victory, voter turnout remained relatively low across the constituency, with only a fraction of registered voters participating in the poll.
The election concluded peacefully, with the APC candidate emerging as the clear winner after the final collation of results.
