The National Industrial Court of Nigeria has restrained three workers’ unions at Kaduna State University (KASU) from embarking on strike or taking any form of industrial action pending the determination of a suit filed against them.
The order was issued by Justice E. D. Subilim of the court’s Abuja Judicial Division on November 5, 2026.
The affected unions are the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT).
The court restrained the unions, their officers, agents and representatives from declaring, organising, encouraging or participating in any strike action. It also directed them to refrain from implementing any industrial action pending the hearing and determination of a Motion on Notice.
The suit, marked NICN/ABJ/329/2026, was filed by Kaduna State University, its Governing Council and the Vice-Chancellor against the three unions and some of their officials.
Those named as defendants include NASU branch chairman, Nina Ochigbo, and its secretary, Dahiru Musa, alongside SSANU chairman, Sadiya Mustapha, and secretary, Nicholas Allen.
The court directed the university’s management to ensure that the originating summons, Motion on Notice, supporting affidavits and a copy of the order were served on the defendants.
It subsequently adjourned the hearing of the Motion on Notice until November 18, 2026.
The order was issued under the seal of the court in Abuja on November 6 and signed by Vallari Aaron Masomene, Senior Registrar II.
