Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has ordered the immediate suspension of all ticket sales, levies, and related fees imposed on inter-city transport operators across the state.
The directive follows discussions between the state government and leaders of the Inter-City Drivers Association, who raised concerns over the growing burden of multiple ticketing systems and numerous charges affecting their operations.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary and Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Linus Obogo.
According to the statement, the suspension takes effect immediately and will remain in place until the government issues further instructions.
The order covers all forms of revenue collection from inter-city transport operators, including charges imposed by government officials, agencies, and security personnel operating within the state.
Authorities have consequently directed all agencies and officers involved in the enforcement or collection of such fees to comply strictly with the new policy.
The state government explained that the move is aimed at addressing complaints from transport operators while creating a more supportive environment for businesses and commercial activities.
As part of efforts to develop a long-term solution, the government disclosed plans to convene a meeting involving key stakeholders in the transport sector.
The proposed engagement is expected to bring together transport unions, government representatives, and other relevant parties to design a regulatory framework that balances the interests of operators, commuters, and the state.
The suspension is expected to provide immediate relief to transport operators who have repeatedly complained about the financial strain caused by multiple taxes, levies, and ticketing requirements.
The Otu administration reaffirmed its commitment to promoting a business-friendly environment, improving economic activities, and enhancing the ease of doing business across Cross River State.
Government officials added that the latest intervention reflects the governor’s determination to reduce economic pressures on citizens and transport operators while advancing his administration’s development agenda.
According to the statement, the measure aligns with the government’s broader objective of improving livelihoods and fostering prosperity throughout the state.
