ESUT Suspends Two Staff Members Over Alleged Extortion, Violation of University Rules‎

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has placed two employees of its Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering on indefinite suspension following allegations of extortion and breaches of institutional regulations.

‎The affected staff members are Collins Ojeh and Emmanuel Eze.
‎
‎The university communicated the decision through separate suspension letters issued to the two workers and signed by its Registrar, Ambrose Ugwu, on Saturday in Enugu.
‎
‎According to the institution, the action was taken based on the findings and recommendations of a committee set up to investigate the allegations levelled against the staff members.
‎
‎In Ojeh’s case, the university management approved his indefinite suspension without pay, effective from July 20, 2026. The institution said the decision followed the committee’s findings linking him to alleged extortion and violations of university policies.

‎He was also instructed to immediately return any university property in his possession to the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
‎
‎Similarly, Eze was suspended from duty effective July 20, 2026, pending further investigation by the university’s Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
‎
‎ESUT said his suspension was also based on the committee’s report concerning alleged cases of extortion and breaches of the university’s regulations.
‎
‎Like Ojeh, Eze was directed to hand over all university belongings in his custody to the department head.
‎
‎Meanwhile, the university issued a caution letter to the acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Princewill Ene, over alleged failure to properly supervise activities within the department during his tenure.
‎
‎The warning, dated July 21, 2026, was issued following the recommendation of the investigative committee. The vice-chancellor directed that Ene be cautioned, warning that any future complaint of a similar nature could attract severe disciplinary action in line with the university’s regulations.
