The Federal Government has introduced the Government Service Portal (GSP), a centralised digital platform designed to give Nigerians easier access to public services through a single online gateway.

‎The portal, which was soft-launched on Tuesday in Abuja, was developed by Galaxy Backbone in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA). The initiative is aimed at improving efficiency, transparency and accountability in public service delivery.

‎Speaking at the launch, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Nadungu Gagare, represented by the Director of E-Government, Johnson Bareyi, described the platform as a major milestone in Nigeria’s digital transformation efforts.

‎He explained that the portal is one of the flagship projects under the country’s e-Government Masterplan 2.0, developed through collaboration between government agencies and development partners.

‎According to him, the platform allows citizens to access multiple government services with a single secure login, eliminating the need for repeated registrations across different government websites.

‎He said the initiative is designed to improve governance by making public services more accessible, faster and easier for Nigerians.

‎Mr Gagare added that the portal aligns with key national policies, including the National Digital Economy Policy and Strategy, the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan, and the Digital Public Infrastructure agenda.

‎He noted that the platform would integrate with the Nigerian Digital Exchange, enabling authorised government institutions to securely share information while reducing duplication of processes across ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).

‎The permanent secretary said the initiative would help reduce delays in service delivery, strengthen transparency and accountability, and support the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the ease of doing business.

‎He also urged MDAs to integrate their digital services into the portal to ensure wider public access and greater value for citizens and businesses.

‎Managing Director of Galaxy Backbone, Ibrahim Adeyanju, described the portal as a significant step toward building a more connected, efficient and citizen-focused digital government.

‎He said the platform would serve as a one-stop destination where individuals and businesses could easily discover and access government services.

‎Mr Adeyanju noted that Nigerians have long struggled with navigating multiple websites, offices and service channels to obtain government services, adding that the portal was created to simplify the process and provide a more consistent user experience.

‎He explained that the GSP complements Nigeria’s existing digital identity, payment and secure government data exchange systems as part of the country’s digital public infrastructure.

‎According to him, the soft launch will allow selected government agencies to join the platform while user feedback is gathered to improve the system before its nationwide rollout.

‎He stressed that the success of the initiative would depend on sustained collaboration among government institutions and the ease with which citizens can access services.

‎Executive Director of Digital Exploration and Technical Services at Galaxy Backbone, Olumbe Akinkugbe, disclosed that user acceptance testing was conducted across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.

‎He said 184 participants took part in the exercise, with more than 80 per cent describing the platform as easy to use and navigate.

‎Mr Akinkugbe added that 88 per cent of participants successfully located government services during testing, while 71 per cent rated the portal’s performance as fast or very fast.

‎He further revealed that 91 per cent indicated willingness to use the platform, while 99 per cent said they would recommend it to others.

‎He, however, noted that feedback from the pilot phase identified areas requiring improvement, including user registration, image capture and one-time password delivery for authentication.

‎According to him, Galaxy Backbone plans to strengthen the platform’s security, improve system architecture, onboard more government agencies and introduce email and WhatsApp verification during the pilot stage.

‎He said the portal would simplify regulatory processes, improve public service delivery and enhance Nigeria’s attractiveness to investors, innovators and visitors.

‎Also speaking, KOICA’s Senior Deputy Country Director, Baik Ki-hyun, representing the country director, described the portal as a landmark achievement in cooperation between Nigeria and the Republic of Korea.

‎He said the platform represents the key outcome of the four-year “Building Foundations Towards Digital Governance in Nigeria” project jointly implemented by both countries.

‎Mr Ki-hyun commended Galaxy Backbone for leading the implementation and expressed confidence in its ability to sustain and further develop the platform beyond the project’s completion.

‎He also praised Nigerian and Korean technical experts, software developers and government officials for their contributions to the initiative, stressing that digital governance requires continuous innovation, collaboration and improvement.

‎The Government Service Portal is expected to gradually expand its offerings as more ministries, departments and agencies integrate their services into the platform.
