Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas, has signed three executive orders into law as part of efforts to address political thuggery, protecting host mining communities and combating drug abuse in the state.
Speaking during the signing ceremony at the Exco Chamber TY Danjuma House Jalingo, the Governor said the move would strengthen security, protect communities, and safeguard the future of the state.
Describing the measures as urgent and necessary, Governor Agbu Kefas said the executive orders were introduced to safeguard the lives, property, and future of the people of Taraba State.
On drug abuse, the Governor said the executive order is intended to reinforce the work of drug law enforcement agencies while promoting a coordinated approach involving government, security agencies, parents, teachers, traditional rulers, and community leaders.
Governor Agbu Kefas emphasized that his administration would not tolerate activities capable of destroying the future of the state’s youth, assuring that all actions taken under the executive order would be in line with constitutional provisions and respect for citizens’ rights.
He called on parents, teachers, security agencies, traditional institutions, and community leaders to work together in protecting children and young people from the dangers of drug abuse.
Speaking on the executive order banning political thuggery, the Governor explained that the decision was prompted by the approaching political campaign season and the need to sustain the peace and security achieved across the state.
He recalled the progress made by his administration in restoring stability, warning that any attempt to disrupt public order or undermine the state’s peace will not be tolerated.
On mining activities, Governor Kefas said the executive order is designed to ensure responsible and well regulated mining operations while protecting the interests and welfare of host communities.
He added that the Taraba State Government will continue to collaborate with the Federal Government and the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development to ensure mining activities are conducted in accordance with established laws and best practices.
The Governor expressed confidence that the executive orders will strengthen public safety, promote responsible governance, and contribute to sustainable development across Taraba State.

Executive Order on the Prohibition of Drug Abuse
Recognizing the alarming rise in substance abuse and its strong correlation with criminality, violence, and social disintegration, the Governor has signed an Executive Order to strengthen the enforcement of existing laws and regulations prohibiting the abuse of illicit drugs and controlled substances.
Drug abuse remains one of the greatest threats to the future of our young people. It fuels insecurity, destroys families, undermines productivity, and exposes communities to various forms of crime. This Executive Order provides stronger legal backing for relevant authorities to prevent, monitor, and prosecute activities related to drug abuse while supporting efforts geared towards public enlightenment, rehabilitation, and youth development.
Executive Order on the Prohibition of Political Thuggery
As the nation gradually approaches another election cycle, the Governor has deemed it necessary to proactively safeguard the peace and stability that Taraba State currently enjoys.
The Executive Order prohibits the recruitment, sponsorship, financing, harbouring, or use of political thugs by any individual, group, or political interest. It is intended to discourage violence, intimidation, destruction of property, and other unlawful acts often associated with electoral contests.
Executive Order on the Prohibition of Environmental Degradation and the Protection of Host Communities
The 3rd Executive Order seeks to protect Taraba State’s rich natural environment and safeguard communities affected by illegal exploitation of natural resources.
The Government has observed with concern the increasing activities of illegal miners, loggers, and other unauthorized operators whose actions have resulted in environmental degradation, destruction of farmlands and water sources, and threats to the safety and livelihoods of host communities.
This Executive Order strengthens measures against illegal exploitation of natural resources, promotes environmental sustainability, and protects the rights and welfare of communities hosting legitimate resource development activities.
The Government calls on all citizens, traditional institutions, religious leaders, youth groups, political stakeholders, civil society organizations, and security agencies to support the implementation of these Executive Orders in the collective interest of peace, security, and progress.
