Troops under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued nine kidnapped civilians following an attempted attack by terrorists in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The operation’s acting spokesperson, Olaniyi Osoba, disclosed in a statement on Sunday that the attackers attempted to infiltrate a military facility around 1:40 a.m. on August 2, 2026, using the cover of darkness.
According to him, troops detected the movement of the terrorists and responded with heavy firepower, forcing the attackers to withdraw in confusion.
He said the terrorists had abducted some residents from nearby communities during the attack but were pursued by troops after reinforcements arrived.
“The troops’ relentless pursuit resulted in the safe rescue of nine abducted residents,” Osoba stated.
He added that one army officer and a police officer were killed during the fierce exchange, while two soldiers sustained gunshot injuries and were evacuated by air for further medical treatment.
Osoba said the injured personnel are currently in stable condition, adding that troops have taken control of the area and commenced further operations to assess the terrorists’ losses and maintain security.
The military spokesperson also dismissed earlier reports claiming that six security personnel were killed, clarifying that only two officers — one soldier and one police officer — lost their lives during the encounter.
