The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has announced plans to hold a solidarity walk in Ibadan, Oyo State, following the continued captivity of pupils and teachers abducted in Oriire Local Government Area.
According to the students’ body, the solidarity walk is to demand the swift release of all the abductees.
The association’s president, Babatunde Akinteye, in a statement on Friday, said the walk was organised to condemn the continued abduction of pupils and teachers, who have now been held captive for three weeks.
Mr Akinteye, who described the abduction of the victims as “cruel, callous and appalling,” stated that NANS, as the foremost and largest Black students’ movement in the world, would not continue to remain silent.
The president urged all NANS structures, sister unions, stakeholders, and student leaders to join the solidarity walk, scheduled for Monday, June 1, 2026.
He said, “This solidarity movement is premised on the continuous hostage situation involving our students and teachers following the gruesome and inhumane attack in Orire Local Government Area.
“It has been three weeks since this cruel and callous act was perpetrated, and it is appalling that, till this day, the abducted students and teachers are yet to be rescued.”
The president also announced plans to visit Community Grammar School, Ahoro-Esiele; L.A. Primary School, Ahoro-Esinele; and Yawota Baptist Nursery and Primary School, where the incident occurred.
Mr Akinteye added that the association would also visit the Oyo State Commissioner of Police and the State Security Service (SSS).
The students’ body called on members of the public to join the planned solidarity walk to demand urgent action, justice and the safe rescue of the victims.
