Human rights activist and African Action Congress presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has said a phone allegedly stolen during an attack on him and party members in Ekiti State on Saturday was traced to the Governor’s Lodge.
Mr Sowore made the allegation in a statement on Sunday.
“One of the phones stolen from a member of our team during Friday’s brutal attack in Ado-Ekiti has now been traced to the Governor’s Lodge in Ekiti State,” the politician said.
Mr Sowore further accused the State Security Service and the police of attempting to hide evidence related to the incident.
He added, “The @PoliceNG and @OfficialDSSNG must immediately release the CCTV footage from Tawakalitu Restaurant to the public. You cannot bury the evidence.”
The development came days after Mr Sowore and his team were assaulted shortly after he attended an interview at MIDAS FM 90.5 in Ado-Ekiti on Friday.
The state police command, in a statement, said Mr Sowore was rescued from suspected thugs, denying report that the activist was kidnapped.
However, Take It Back Movement condemned the alleged brutal attack and accused the police of downplaying its intensity.
Meanwhile, the police on Saturday said it arrested 11 suspects linked to the incident.
“The suspects are in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to establish their individual roles, determine their possible connections with the attack and identify other persons involved,” the statement said.
The police added that further developments would be communicated accordingly.
