The Cross River State Police Command has taken into custody two individuals in connection with a reported murder incident in Afokang community, located in Calabar South Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, the case was first reported on Tuesday by a correctional officer in the area, prompting swift police action.
The statement revealed that at about 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, security operatives received information that some residents had apprehended persons suspected to be linked to a murder incident in the community.
Officers from the Efut Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where they took custody of one male and one female suspect.
During preliminary questioning, both suspects reportedly denied any involvement or knowledge of the alleged crime.
The police further clarified that no body was discovered at the location as circulated on social media, although traces of blood were seen around a nearby soakaway pit.
One of the suspects claimed the bloodstain was from an old leg injury.
ASP Eitokpah stated that due to the sensitive nature of the case, the suspects and case file have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a more detailed and discreet investigation.
He added that investigations are still ongoing, with further updates expected as more verified information becomes available.
