The Delta State Police Command has apprehended two suspected criminals, Omini Ezeri and Chinedum Wagbara, after recovering two locally manufactured Beretta pistols and nine rounds of live ammunition from them along the Agbarho–Warri road.
According to the police spokesperson in Delta State, Bright Edafe, the suspects were arrested on Saturday during a stop-and-search operation carried out by officers along the route.
Edafe, in a statement released on Sunday, said the suspects, who are residents of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, were intercepted while travelling in a grey Mercedes-Benz ML SUV with registration number AAA 604 JZ.
He disclosed that a third occupant of the vehicle, identified as God Knows Ifreke, escaped from the scene by running into a nearby swamp during preliminary questioning.
A search of the vehicle, the police spokesperson said, led to the discovery of two locally fabricated Beretta pistols loaded with nine rounds of ammunition, about 200 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine, a walkie-talkie, a dagger, a grinder, and two high-end mobile phones.
Edafe added that the two arrested suspects are currently in police custody, while efforts are underway to track down and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
