President Bola Tinubu will inaugurate the completed 190-kilometre Jaji-Kano section of the Kaduna-Kano project on December 3.

Dele Alake, spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday.

Alake said the 203-kilometre railway project had reached approximately 90 percent completion.

The Kaduna-Kano railway is an extension of the existing Abuja-Kaduna standard gauge line.

When fully operational, it is expected to connect Abuja, Kaduna, Zaria and Kano, providing an alternative means of transportation along a major commercial corridor in northern Nigeria.

Alake also said the 400-kilometre Kano-Katsina-Maradi railway project had attained 70 percent completion.

He said a federal government team led by Funso Adebiyi, permanent secretary of the federal ministry of transportation, recently inspected both projects on the president’s directive.

He added that the team expressed satisfaction with the quality of construction, especially the railway alignment, drainage infrastructure, embankment protection, stone pitching and soil stabilisation.

The inspection also included a test-run train journey from Jaji in Kaduna state to Kano to assess the completed track infrastructure and passenger comfort.

Alake said Tinubu had directed that outstanding land acquisition and compensation issues within Kaduna metropolis be resolved immediately to facilitate the completion of the railway corridor between Abuja and Kano.

He added that the completed 250-kilometre Dawanu-Kano-Kazaure-Daura-Katsina section of the Kano-Maradi project will also be commissioned on December 3.
