Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has dismissed Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, Olga Stefanishyna, bringing her diplomatic assignment in Washington to an end.
The decision was made public on Monday through a presidential decree issued by the Ukrainian presidency. In a statement shared on Facebook, Ms Stefanishyna explained that she had personally requested to leave the post, citing personal reasons.
Reflecting on her tenure, she described serving as Ukraine’s envoy to the U.S. as the greatest honour of her life. She noted that her team succeeded in strengthening the flow of American military assistance and sustaining U.S. backing for Ukraine despite challenging political circumstances in Washington.
President Zelensky has yet to announce who will replace her as ambassador.
Her departure follows a wider cabinet reshuffle initiated in July as Ukraine continues efforts to secure strong military and political support from the United States in its ongoing conflict with Russia.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reports indicate that Ms Stefanishyna is being investigated by the country’s anti-corruption agency over allegations of possible misconduct. However, no formal charges have been filed against her.
