A 40-year-old woman has been killed and nine other people, including two children, injured after Russian drones struck residential buildings in Kharkiv, northeastern Ukraine.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed the attack in a statement posted on X on Sunday, saying emergency responders were immediately deployed to the affected area.
According to him, police officers, medical personnel and rescue workers are continuing search operations at the scene to determine whether more victims remain trapped beneath the debris.
”Emergency services are working at the site of the drone strike on residential buildings in Kharkiv. Sadly, one person lost their life, while nine others, including two children, sustained injuries,” Zelenskyy said.
The Ukrainian leader also revealed that Russia launched a large-scale aerial assault on Saturday, firing eight missiles and deploying 136 drones of different types across the country. He noted that Ukrainian air defence systems intercepted a number of the incoming threats.
Zelenskyy said the attacks affected several regions, including Kherson, Donetsk, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Sumy, Odesa, Mykolaiv, Zaporizhzhia and Chernihiv, as well as the capital, Kyiv.
He added that Kyiv was hit by ballistic missiles during the assault, leaving three people injured.
