Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has announced that Deputy Governor Murtala Sule Garo will remain his running mate in the 2027 governorship election, reaffirming their political alliance ahead of the next electoral contest.
The declaration was made during a meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja. The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.
Yusuf said his decision was based on Garo’s loyalty, commitment and performance since the administration took office. He described the deputy governor as a reliable partner who has shown competence, dedication and a strong sense of duty.
According to the governor, he remains satisfied with his choice of Garo as deputy governor, expressing confidence in his ability to continue supporting the administration’s goals.
He also praised Garo for his role in advancing the government’s development agenda, noting that his contributions have been instrumental in delivering on campaign promises and improving governance in the state.
Yusuf stressed that both of them would continue working together to achieve the objectives they set for the people of Kano.
The governor further urged party leaders, political appointees and supporters to remain united and committed as political activities gradually build up ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said sustaining unity within the party would be crucial in consolidating the achievements of the administration and preparing for future political challenges.
The announcement officially confirms that the Yusuf-Garo ticket will be retained for the 2027 governorship race, signalling the governor’s desire to maintain continuity in his administration as preparations for the election begin.
